This Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe is cooked to perfection in your slow cooker and has a sweet, brown sugar and honey glaze on the outside. This easy ham recipe is perfect for Easter, Christmas or Sunday dinner.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (1)

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe is so special to me because it is my Grandmother’s recipe. There was nothing better than walking into her home on a Sunday afternoon and smelling the sweet and savory aroma of this delicious ham baking.

Every time I make this recipe, I feel like a little girl and all the memories of family dinners around my grandma’s table come flooding back.

I changed this recipe up a bit so it can be made in a slow cooker, but it tastes exactly the same!

The best part about this slow cooker ham, is the ham gravy you make with the drippings afterwards. It is amazing!

The best way to store your leftover ham is in an airtight container in the fridge. You’ll want to save this after your holiday meal, whether it’s Christmas dinner or Easter dinner. Or you can make this recipe on any given weeknight – it’s that good! Plus, it’s just the perfect main dish.

How to make Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham:

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (2)

Spray a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray and place a cooked, spiral cut ham inside. It’s okay if it doesn’t fit perfectly inside the slow cooker, I will show you what you can do if that is the case.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (3)

Pour 1/3 cup water around the sides of the ham. It will drain into the bottom of the slow cooker.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (4)

In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (5)

Cook, stirring constantly, for 2-5 minutes on the stovetop until the sugar is dissolved then pour over the top of the ham in the slow cooker.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (6)

At this point, if your ham fits nicely in your slow cooker you can place the lid on top and set the timer.

If the top of your ham is sticking out of your slow cooker, simply use some sheets of foil and create a tent to hold in the heat around the sides of the ham then pinching closed at the top.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (7)

Place a thick, clean cloth on top of the foil tent to hold in the heat and then place the slow cooker lid on top.

Cook on low for 2-4 hours or until heated through. Most spiral sliced hams are already cooked, the ham is cooked through completely, so you are just trying to heat it through and let the glaze to thicken.

If your ham is not precooked, it will take about 4-6 hours to cook.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (8)

When the ham is done cooking, pour the drippings in the bottom of the slow cooker through a strainer and into a saucepan on the stove top.

Whisk together 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl, then whisk into the drippings.

Heat over medium-high heat, whisking constantly until the mixture begins to boil and thicken. Continue to cook until your gravy reaches your desired consistency.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (9)

Slice ham and serve with gravy on the side.

This is one of our favorite recipes to make for Sunday dinner! It’s also great for the holidays.

This looks SO good! I currently live in Germany and the only ham we have is lunch meat ham. It kills me. I would LOVE to get my hands on a nice ham like this! And honey baked? Oh my.

  2. Lavender says:

I'm just curious about something. This recipe sounds excellent and with both our children home for Christmas break from college I wanted to do something extra special (they will both graduate in the next two years so these times may get fewer and farther between, though I hope not!). At least some of the spiral hams I've seen are actually cooked already and you are mostly reheating and glazing them, but you don't specify. Did you start with a raw ham that was spiral sliced or did you start with one that was already cooked?

    Thanks!

  3. Candace says:

This looks so delicious! Definitely making it this year. Question though....do you completely cover the ham with foil? Or do you put it in the crockpot, and just cover the top?

  4. Candace says:

(To clarify my last comment)....I meant, do you WRAP the entire ham in foil? Or just cover the top?

  5. Six Sisters says:

Just cover the top. But the foil is tucked way down on the sides of the ham. I used two sheets of tin foil that were each about 12" long. I tucked the ends all around the edges of the crock pot and then gathered them together in the middle and folded the ends down. I hope this helps.

  6. Oma in Surprise says:

I just wanted to repeat a question that didn't get answered because I have the same question. Are you starting with one of those pre-cooked spiral hams, or is it a raw ham?

  7. Six Sisters says:

I used the pre-cooked spiral ham. -The Six Sisters

  9. Amy Hendricks says:

I am making this tomorrow, but won't be able to baste it (church). Should I add more water or do you think it will be okay?

  10. Michelle says:

I have the same question about basting, I will be away from home for several hours and can't nature it every hour.

  11. Michelle says:

I have the same question about basting, I will be away from home for several hours and can't nature it every hour.

  12. Ashley says:

Is this cooked on high or low?

  13. Mary Hirose says:

Wow. Mine did NOT turn out like that. It's still good, but it's all shredded and falling apart and the sauce is liquid not thick like in the picture.

  14. Six Sisters says:

Cook on low 6 to 8 hours for a larger ham. Watch closely in case it gets done sooner.

  15. Six Sisters says:

You should be fine just basting it once and adding just a little more water. :)

  16. Sally says:

This recipe was very easy. It was honestly the best ham I have ever tasted or made! So happy to be able to pass this recipe on to my girls.

  17. Michelle Davenport says:

I have a 4lb lean cured ham from our butcher. Wondering if this recipe would work if I just shortened the cook time? I'm not sure what affect the curing will have on the recipe.

  18. Chris in Boise says:

Made this once early this year. Very easy to make, and quite a bit cheaper than the Brand Name honey hams. When I made it I turned it once after two hours, and basted two or three times after. It took a 9 lb ham about seven hours on low. Very tasty; I'm planning on making it again for Christmas. Thanks for the great recipe!

  19. Sarah says:

I bought this cookbook because this website implies the slow cooker spiral ham recipe is in it. It is not! Please tell me what cookbook the slow cooker spiral ham is in?

  20. Linda says:

The recipe states IF the lid does not fit you use tin foil. My lid fit very nicely . Waiting for the results. Will get back to you, thanks.

  21. BETH says:

Can I start with the ham frozen? Thank you.

  22. Cyd says:

We started with our ham thawed. We have used frozen chicken breasts in the crock pot before, but that is a lot smaller than a ham. That's pretty thick to put in frozen so we aren't quite sure how well it would work or how much time to add for cooking. Sorry we can't help you more.

  23. carol says:

Should it be placed face down? The cut side touching the bottom of the crockpot, i have a 6lb half ham

  24. Cyd says:

Yes, place your ham with the cut side facing the bottom of your crock pot.

  25. Linda says:

How much water do you put in the bottom?

  26. Patricia Collette says:

My 9 lb ham will fit with the cover on it, if I put it in the crockpot sideways, can this be done or does it have to have the cut side down, is that a fast rule.

  27. Cyd says:

You should be fine cooking it on it's side. Just be sure you have plenty of liquid on it. You may want to baste with liquid every 30 minutes. The foil tent works great. I did it over the Christmas break and it worked great.

  28. Joe says:

Can't wait to try this! Bought a Cracker Barrel spiral pre cooked ham over the holiday and am thinking about adding all your sauce ingredients less the honey packet that came with the 8lb ham. Think that will work? I don't want my ha me becoming too sweet. Also can I add cut up sweet potatoes and carrot to this crock pot meal without trouble also? Thanks!

  29. Cyd says:

Sounds delicious!! You could add cut up sweet potatoes and carrots if you have room.

  30. Carmen says:

I have a 16qt roaster oven. Would I need to add more water to this because it is so big? I also want to add potatoes, and other vegetables at the end.

  31. Cyd says:

You will want to be sure that the bottom of the roaster is covered with water.

  32. Laura says:

I just realized that my ham isn't spiral cut? Do you think it will still work in the crockpot?

  33. Cyd says:

Hi Laura, You ham will still work fine. I'm actually cooking one tomorrow too and mine isn't spiral cut either. Just be sure and score your ham and then the honey/brown sugar mixture can soak in. Have a great weekend!

  34. Katlyn says:

My ham is only about 4 1/2 lbs, how long should I cook it in the crock pot? Should I change anything else about the recipe?

  35. Cyd says:

If your ham is only 4 1/2 pounds, it shouldn't need to cook quite as long. Maybe around 4-5 hours on low setting. Be sure to check it after about 4 hours to see if it is over cooked or will still need more time. I would leave the ingredient amounts the same. It will be a flavorful ham. :)

  36. Katlyn says:

So 4 hours (plus some time on keep warm while i finished other side dishes) was perfect! This ham was so yummy, it will definitely be my new go to ham recipe. Thank you!

  37. Cyd says:

I didn't look at the comments on Thanksgiving. So glad to hear that the Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham turned out well. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  38. Jo-An Simon says:

Ruined my ham. Cooked to death. 15 lb ham cooked 6 hours on low. Terrible recipe.

  39. Jo-An Simon says:

    Correction: a ten pound ham.

  40. Jean says:

I just realized that in step 4 of the instructions, the mustard isn't mentioned. I've made the glaze with it before, but only just now realized that it was missed in the instructions!BTW, This ham is the BEST! Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (16)

  41. Renee says:

Does regular mustard work if I don’t have Dijon?

  42. Cyd says:

Yes, but it will alter the taste. You can use the classic, American yellow mustard to substitute Dijon. Yellow has a tarter taste than Dijon, but it's not as tangy. ... Because of its mellower flavor, you can use yellow mustard in any dish that calls for Dijon mustard.

  43. Amy Nicol says:

Love this recipe! Made it for Easter and it’s a winner! Even with my husband that doesn’t usually like ham. Thanks so much!

  44. Mmm says:

Love a good ham with honey!

  45. Joyce says:

Is it ok to use a crock pot liner in my crock pot to cook my spiral ham with this recipe? Liners make clean up so easy.

  46. Momma Cyd says:

Sure! We love slow cooker liners!

  47. SLW says:

This was a disaster. Turned my ham into bacon. With the foil hood, you just assume all is well. Be sure to check after 3 hours.

Slow Cooker Honey Baked Ham Recipe (18)

  48. Ed Foley says:

Is this a bone in or not we are on our way and just realized .We don't know which to buy. Both are spiral cut ?

  49. Momma Cyd says:

Either will work fine. A bone-in or boneless precooked ham can give you a good result, but the bone-in varieties cook more quickly and often have more flavor. But with the glaze you can't go wrong.

  50. Grace says:

This is my go to recipe and have used it for years. Always turns out fabulous.
