Hi,

I managed to get action shots of all the high school soccer players (23 on one team and 18 on the other), but I'm at a loss on how I can create a poster (maybe 16x20) and show them all. Should I try cropping them all the same size or go for something more random? I'm decent with the pen tool, but would prefer NOT to cut them all out individually.

I just want to use them as decorations at the end-of-the-year banquet. Last year I made 10-12 different 11x14 posters with fewer kids on each, but if I could get one large poster for each team I might be able to sell a few and donate the proceeds to the school.

If anyone had examples I would love some help!

thanks,
Deanna

Deanna,
No simple task. Here are two I worked out with similarly high numbers of players. (These are two versions of the same poster. I eventually went with the first one posted here.)

And here's a recent gymnastics poster I threw together--nothing fancy, just trying to include everyone.

These are great, Russ! I LOVE the idea of putting their names underneath.

How large did you print them?

Great stuff Russ. Just when I think I'm gettin' half decent at this ...

Hey ... have I just not noticed or is that logo new?

Gary: The logo is new, part of a branding effort Need Soccer Poster Ideas - Many Players (30).

Deanna: You're wise to try to gather ideas. Then just give it a shot and I recommend you post here what you come up with. I definitely got some good advice here for the soccer poster above (like strategically placing the red-jersey and goal keeper shots to strive for color symmetry) and had incorporated advice I'd gleaned from others' poster posts (such as placing individual photos to assure that players are 'moving' into, rather than toward the borders of the poster). Lots of folks here with great ideas and a good eye for design, so don't be shy about asking for feedback.

hi deannad, nice job for your first try.

You have some great action shots there. Might I suggest you use only the individual action shots and remove the ones where you have more than one player in the frame. You could also try stretching the transparent photo in the centre so it goes to the edges and possibly try applying a red colour overlay to match the team colours. I would also replace the centre image with one of a group photo, whether it be a formal shot or just one of the entire team having fun, celebrating or whatever kind of like what "vescandon" did but try not to cover up their faces. And don't forget to leave enough space on the edges for a border.

cheers,

tonebag

hey vescandon,

I really like the job you did on the final version of your team poster! The kids and parents must have loved it!

Did you get the kids to write the names with a sharpie and then scan them in or did you just use different fonts? Either way, a real nice touch.

I was looking at "vescandon" example and I said to myself: why didn't he clone that dude in the background out!!!...of course if I had only scrolled down before juming the gun...clumsy me! Nice example of the evolution of an idea.

Thanks for sharing!
